Face and neck and chest spider veins: laser treatment
Spider veins can also be of cosmetic concern to our patients. The small, red colored blood vessels on the face, neck and chest are often the result of past sun exposure or rosacea. They can also be seen in patients with a fair complexion. Other causes are previous pregnancy, usage of the birth control or from chronic alcohol. We now offer the latest in laser therapy for spider veins. These lesions can now be treated quickly in our office without any unsightly crusting or bruising after the treatment session. Our vascular laser uses the best technology to improve both spider veins and any blotchy redness on the face. Our patients can usually expect a better and faster result as compared to the non-laser technology of IPL treatments.
Leg and thigh spider veins: sclerotherapy and laser treatments
A procedure known as sclerotherapy has been around since the 1930's to clear unsightly blood vessels on the skin, especially the legs. We perform sclerotherapy by injecting a solution into the vein, that gently irritates the inner lining of the vessel and causes it to gradually disappear over several weeks.
Sclerotherapy is performed every four to six weeks and is associated with minimal discomfort. Dr. Mowbray limits his practice to the cosmetic treatment of spider veins and he does not treat larger varicose veins. During the healing phase, the treated vessels will temporarily intensify in color, followed by their gradual fading and disappearance. The total time for healing is accelerated if the patient wears a good support hose for at least two weeks. There is no physical limitation after the treatment and walking and exercise are encouraged. Be sure to avoid Aspirin and related pain pills one week prior to your treatment as they tend to cause more bruising after the treatment session.
Our new vascular LASER is available to treat any tiny spider veins that are too narrow in diameter for sclerotherapy to clear. Sclerotherapy of spider veins on the legs is still the best method of treatment. We have a vascular LASER in the office but it is reserved for tiny veins on the legs that we cannot eradicate with sclerotherapy.
